Emily transformed our old and tired garden in the summer of 2025. She worked with us to create options for the design. She was easy to work with, listened to our ideas and did not just impose her own concepts. Her landscaping team JG Landscaping Ltd did an outstanding job especially since the access to the garden was down a very narrow path. The existing pond also posed many challenges which they cheerfully sorted. The final result was a garden that we are all delighted with where we can sit and enjoy the tranquility, colour and scents.
Designing a garden with a pond
Garden design features: limestone terrace and pathways with clay paver details, gravel garden planting surrounding the pond and raised planters at different heights adding multi level interest to a flat space
This design focuses on drawing you through the garden literally and visually by creating strong axes and zones inspired by the house and its materials. Large format natural limestone paving wraps around the building and is contrasted with pale grey clay pavers leading directly from the centre of the house doors in a stacked ‘runner’ pattern before breaking out along a self-binding gravelled path up the centre of the garden towards its wilder side where the pond sits nestled in a gravel planted ‘beach’. The main seating terrace away from the house takes advantage of the sun, overlooks the pond and is surrounded by layers of planting including raised aluminium planters filled with fragrant herbs and colour matched to the new doors and windows. The new shed is screened by native Yew hedging and along the boundary wall a deep bed filled with layers of seasonal planting.
